Rats can be a scary prospect for both domestic and commercial premises. Kitchens are an obvious target for rats with easy access to food, which rats love. Signs that you may have a rat problem include scratching noises or rat droppings which look like large brown pellets. Rats will often damage food containers by chewing through them.
Removing a rat problem should be a priority to avoid any potential food contamination and the spread of harmful diseases. Rats must drink water daily unless their food source has a high moisture content, they are considered omnivorous and can eat up to 1 tenth of their body weight each day with preferred food being cereals.

Our Treatment Programme
The main concern with rats in both domestic and commercial properties is their ability to spread disease where food is stored or prepared. Our technicians will assess the severity of the problem which will dictate the recommended treatment to remove them.
Careful planning and implementation will then ensure the treatment is effective whilst also safe for other pets and children. We use tamper resistant baits in hotspots that have been identified.
When treatments are completed our technician will provide a report including details on what treatments have been used and recommendations to help prevent further infestations.
Rat Control Facts
The rat originated from Asia and China and was first recorded in Europe in the 18th century, referred to as Norway rats because they were though to have arrived from the East on Norwegian timber ships.
Rats have very strong teeth which never stop growing, they have to keep nibbling to wear them down which is why they cause so much destruction. They are also great swimmers and able to hold their breath for several minutes.
Rats begin breeding as soon as 5 weeks of age and continue until the age of 2. The females are fertile every 3 weeks with pregnancy lasting 3 weeks and a typical litter size ranging from 6 to 20 babies.
Problems Caused by Rats
The most common problem caused by rats is destruction to property but they also spread disease, contaminating food and water. In search of food they will travel over work surfaces where it is prepared in search of crumbs and contaminate these areas which then have food prepared.
Rats can also bite and are especially a problem if there are babies or very young children around.
